Yellow Dragon Fruit. Pitaya. Pithaya. Hylocereus megalanthus. Originating in northern region of South America, these yellow dragon fruit are currently the rarer dragon fruit species grown in Australia.
Not to be mistaken with the yellow hylocereus undatus species or Isis Gold, this H. megalanthus species has thorns (which are burnt off by the farmer before packing for sale) instead of leafy bracts.
In terms of its flavour, this dragon fruit is amazingly juicy sweet with a tangy depth of flavour which some customers have described as “mind-blowing”. If you’re looking for a flavourful dragon fruit, this is it. Highly recommended variety by The Thorny Fruit Co.
Pricing retails on the premium end due to limited supply compared to its common white and red fleshed, leafy cousins.
These will either come from Queensland or Northern Territory depending on seasonal supply and 6-8 week fruiting cycle. There are NO fixed or pre-determined dates for fulfilment. When you pre-order, this will be a queued order until the fruit arrives in Sydney market.
