A close relative to the rambutan and lychee family (Sapindaceae), Australian longans were brought into Far North Queensland by Chinese immigrants in the 1960s.
The more common longan cultivar in Australia is the Kohala, Biew Kiew, Chompoo and Haew.
Australian longan season is usually between January and mid-June.
