The Zappala family have been growing durians on their Far North Queensland farm for over 30 years. Their durian farm in Queensland has been part of a collaboration with Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI) where they obtained clones of budwood to grow. Clones that they have left after Cyclone Yasi and Larry are the D10 clone, D24 clone, and D158 Gan Yao/KanYao (similar to the Penang D158 Clone).

ONLY AVAILABLE FOR PICKUP, NO DELIVERY. Select from the options in the dropdown. The weight, type of durian name, harvest style and price will be available.

Pick-up locations are either from Chullora NSW or Malacca Straits on Broadway only. No delivery available as it is available fresh and must be sold by Monday 15 March 2021. We will get in touch with you when the durians are ready to be picked-up.

About the Gan Yao/Kan Yao

Generally medium in size between 1.5-2kg whole fruit, the Gan Yao is known as the high class durian in Bangkok. Distinct in its roundness like a volleyball and its extremely long stem, its flesh is sweet and custardy. This Aussie-grown durian is incredibly creamy pulp, even when overripe, it doesn’t become too mushy. If tree-cut, it may be firm in texture and hold more sweetness. Some durians may also carry a pungent flavour depending on tree age.

About the D10 Clone

Originating from the state of Selangor in Malaysia, this D10 Aussie-grown durian are generally round and oval in shape. The husk is thick and yellowish green in colour. Its flesh is a pale yellow, thick sweet and creamy. There are also some D10s with subtle hints of bitterness, dependant on the tree age.

About the D24 Clone

The Aussie-grown D24 clone is a moreish durian also known as Sultan, identified by its homogeneous green-yellow husk. One of the more popular varieties in Malaysia pre-Musang King, this thick and creamy yellow durian pulp's taste profile is bittersweet.
