Cempedak. Chempedak. Artocarpus Integer. This tree-ripened, delicious honey sweet Malaysian variety cempedak is expected to commence its season around end December until mid/late January sourced from Tropical Primary Products’ farm in Darwin, NT.
A species of tree in the family Moraceae, it is in the same genus as breadfruit and jackfruit. Often mistaken for jackfruit, it has a softer sweeter flesh, and grows in a smaller cylindrical shape in comparison to its heavyweight cousin.
Cempedak is native to southeast Asia, especially from Malaysia and can be found in Indonesia to the island of New Guinea.
In Australia, they grow in the Northern Territory and Far North Queensland, and as far south as Northern NSW.
