WE DO NOT POST / COURIER DURIANS outside of Sydney, NSW.

Grown in Far North Queensland, The Thorny Fruit Co has been able to secure an extremely limited quantity of the rare Durio Dulcis for pre-order.

Originally from Borneo, the Wild Red Durian or known to Borneo locals as tutong or lahong, is an entirely different durian species called Durio Dulcis

Durio Dulcis is an uncultivated durian species usually found deep in the wild jungles of Borneo. Somehow, there are a small number of trees growing in Far North Queensland for the last 30 years.

The Durio Dulcis is recognised by its bright red husk with long, extremely pointy thorns. Some variants may have yellow or black tips.

WHAT DOES THIS DURIAN TASTE LIKE?

This durian is NOT the same as commercial durio zibethinus (e.g. Musang King, Monthong, D24, D101) that is highly cloned and cultivated to suit commercial human consumption. You will either hate the durio dulcis, or love it - like we do!

Durio Dulcis has a VERY LOW flesh to seed ratio, smells medicinal and nauseating, and difficult to open. Its sparse flesh is stringy and gooey in texture. It is supposedly sweet with a minty aftertaste, thinly draped over large black-brown seeds.

This little wild red durian, whilst having sparsely any flesh enveloping its seed, has the most pungent delightfully sweet intoxicating scent.

The flesh is a stringy membrane with minute bits of custard goodness - like a powerful minty custard sweet earthy candy.

If there was ever a dessert durian, this red durian was degustation on a spiky plate. Tiny, but sensory provoking.
