This Queensland grown fresh Chanee durian is tree-harvested direct from clone Chanee budwood from Malaysia by Zappala Tropicals. These are not Chanee seedlings (grown from seed).

The Zappala family had worked in collaboration with Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI) in the 1990s, to research various durio zibethinus clones to understand its viability in the Northern Australia region.

The word Chanee means "Gibbon" in Thai, and it produces fruit between 2kg and 4.5kg in weight. It is usually oval to broad cylindrical in shape, and its husk is a greyish green-brown colour.

Inside, the bright yellow pulp is thick, firm buttery in texture with a creamy smooth, milky aftertaste. Depending on ripeness, and whether it is tree-dropped, the Chanee pulp can be tinged with a vibrant gold hue, and have a slight bitter pungency in taste.

Some could describe the Chanee as a cross between a Thai Mon Thong and Musang King in flavour, depending on fermentation and ripeness.

Options:

Each punnet will come with approx 400-500g of FRESH (never frozen) chilled, Chanee durian pulp with seed.
