Bamboo Shoots are a popular delicacy in most Asian cuisine. It’s light fibrous and crunchy texture is favoured in curries, stir fry, pickled, stews or hot pot dishes.
Australia grows at least three or four edible varieties that is available in commercial supply. Usually stocked at Asian grocers across the country, the varieties are available mainly during summer.
1. D. Latiflorus also known as Taiwan Giant Bamboo is a large clumping bamboo known in Taiwan and China. The shoots of this species is edible and sweet. Identified by its outer brown-red shade.
