XO durians take after the name “XO” meaning “extra old” typically used on alcohol labels. In this case of the durian, extra old refers to the long fermentation period of the durian. Once tree-ripened and dropped to the ground, the XO durian is left to ripen even further before opening.
This gives the XO durian pulp its fermented bitterness, and is extremely soft to hold.
For lovers of a stronger flavoured durian, this XO durian, if the producers had sufficiently fermented long enough, should hold a sure bitter creaminess.
Each 12kg box of Hanabi XO durians may contain approx 7 or 8 frozen whole fruit imported from Malaysia, and will be in the process of defrosting at the time of delivery/pickup.
