These GIGANTIC aged cucumbers are specially grown in North Queensland for The Thorny Fruit Co. Only limited quantities available as a one-off season for summer. There are VERY limited number of cucumbers - and this will only be available for delivery fresh on THURSDAY. Price is PER WHOLE CUCUMBER, each one is approximately 3-5kg in weight, making it cost approx $5-8/kg.

As an experiment with the Giant Russian Cucumber varietal, these cucumbers were left on the vine to age further for about 5-6 weeks. (This is NOT the same varietal as the Malaysian/China old cucumbers).

Giant Russian cucumbers are typically acid-free sweet cucumbers which are yellow in colour when mature, then turns orange brown as it ages.

Old cucumbers are best for soups. Preparation required can be peeled (optional) and seeds must be removed prior to cooking.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, it is believed that the old cucumber is cooling, or considered “yin” energy. Especially great in summer, the Cantonese believe the old cucumber soup is a home remedy for sore throats and coughs.

Available whole, per piece ONLY. Sizes range between 3-5kg. The cucumber is hollow and juicy, and will weep if cut. We recommend sharing with a friend. Kept whole, this cucumber can be stored for a month in the fridge crisper.

Or prepare it by cutting, remove seeds then clean the cucumber to freeze it for use in the next 3 months.

Grown in North Queensland.
